Filming Starts…

This evening we invited 2 experts to Donisthorpe youth club to help us with our research into Pit Talk and local dialect – Dr Natalie Barber, a senior lecturer in Linguistics from Nottingham University and Keith Bakewell,  a local retired miner.

Natalie shared with us some of her research into Pit Talk in the East Midlands, interviewing miners and communities across the region to document words, phrases and the key role language played in mining culture. She’s got a book coming out soon with Bradwell Books – we’ll be sure to post about it here.

Keith told us tales of his mining career and allowed us to hear the local dialect from a native speaker! He’ll be coming back to do a full interview with us in half term week.
